Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah (POLIMAS) Polytechnic is located in Darulaman City, Jitra, about 25 kilometers from Alor Setar, the capital of Kedah. POLIMAS was established in February 1984. At that time, it was known as the Alor Setar Polytechnic and it was the dormitory building of Alor Setar High School.The first group of students, about 120 were accepted for the July 1984. POLIMAS aims to train SPM and SPMV graduates to produce professional workforce in engineering and trade.The campus is located on 28 hectares in the Kubang Pasu district. It was first used on March 14, 1987 and was officially opened by His Highness the Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah on March 23, 1989. From that day onwards the name of the Polytechnic Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah was given, after his name.POLIMAS has grown into a strong institution of education and technical training. Student enrollment has increased to nearly 6000 with a staff turnover of 600.
