PROJECTS DATABASE
The establishment of National Heritage Act 645 in 2005 has shown the great effort by government to preserve tangible and intangible heritage in Malaysia. The inscription of Melaka and George Town, the Historic Cities of the Straits of Malacca as a UNESCO World Heritage Site on 7 July 2008 was a boast achievement. In general, conservation is an activity taken to prolong the life of heritage buildings. It involves various action includes restoration, preservation, reconstruction, rehabilitation and adaptation or any combination. In current practice, the decision to conserve heritage buildings is based on the historical and cultural factors. However, approach and method of conservation may differ depending on the building complexity, material, condition, and other related factors. Currently, there are lack of information on heritage building conservation in Malaysia either in printed media or online. Many of the information are not published.
Therefore, the main aim of this project is to collect and establish database on completed conservation projects in Malaysia from the related contributors such as registered conservators, JKR and JWN to be. The information will be compiled and shared in PAM-eR website. The database is useful reference to researchers, conservators, students, and many others. Furthermore, the database can promote heritage building conservation in Malaysia as well as to acknowledge the undertaking conservation works.
