PROJECT SYNOPSIS
The Conservation
of
Bungalow of Captain Speedy
The building was built in 1870 by Ngah Ibrahim as the residence of the Chief Police in Larut District, Captain T.C.S Speedy. After changing several other functions, this building is now part of the Matang Museum Gallery under the administration of the Perak State Museum Department.
The building suffered no significant damage except for a few leaks on the roof. This conservation project focuses on repairing faded elements such as floors, walls, doors, windows and ceilings. At the same time, a small number of columns and floor beams suffered decay and were replaced with new ones. Moreover, the roof leaks require new replacement as most V-shaped roof tile units suffer damage when removed for cleaning.
