Masjid Kampung Laut is one of the oldest mosques in Malaysia. The mosque was originally located in Nilam Puri of Kota Bharu, Kelantan, and was later relocated to its current location in 2021.
The conservation project of Masjid Kampung Laut is about the relocation of an old traditional timber mosque building believed to be 400 years old to a new site about 16km to the north as part of the riverside redevelopment project on the west bank of Kelantan River. This is the second relocation work after the first was salvaged and relocated in 1967 from its original site in Kampung Laut to a new site in Nilam. This was due to severe damage after a heavy flood. Today, the original spot is unfortunately buried in the middle of the river as the river has moved westward. This project was completed in August 2022, and Prime Minister Dato Seri Ismail Sabri officiated the opening ceremony on Friday Sept 9th 2022 (12 Safar 1444).
